Displaced Children and elders who fled in the forest of Kanpetlet township in Chin state are suffering from skin diseases and diarrhea.
The displaced people have stayed in the forest for about a month and about 300 children are already suffering from skin diseases, according to a pastor who is helping the displaced people.
"Strange rashes have appeared on the children's bodies, similar to measles. Doctors and nurses treated them but didn't know what kind of disease afflict them,” the pastor said. “Three of them have died, so far. Some elders are also suffering from diarrhea. I think it is not because of water. I don't know why."
These IDPs are fleeing from Chin's Kanpetlet and Sagaing region and are in need of food and medicine.
"I feel well but the children here are in bad shape” a woman refugee said. “They're suffering from an unknown disease. Some doctors said they have to take oral rehydration salts but some prescribed not to. So, we don't know what to do."
It has been over a year since residents in Kanpetlet township have fled due to the clashes between Chinland Defense Forces and the Burma Army. The locals have not been able to celebrate the Christmas holidays because of the fighting.
Although there has been no fighting in Kanpetlet township at the moment, the townsfolk are worried about air strikes.
