Residents flee homes amid military shelling in Karen State

Local residents were forced to flee their homes in Karen State amid intensified military shelling that destroyed houses and other structures.

 

 

 

Due to the shelling by the military forces, a school, monastery and houses in Kamine Kone village in the South of Kawkareik township were destroyed on March 26.

 

 

Currently, residents, including women and elders around the Kamine Kone and Ywar Thit villages have been forced to flee to the safe places and are in need of food and medicines.

 

A total of 11 military personnel were reported to be killed and three others injured during the fighting that occurred on March 25 near Myawaddy Trade Zone in Karen state.

 

According to sources, anti-junta forces captured, eight prisoners of war including a woman were arrested during the fighting.

 

Clashes have escalated in Kawkareik town and Kamine Kone village on March 26 and the military was conducting air strikes as well.
