Two civilians killed, two injured in artillery shelling in Karen

Two civilians were killed and another more injured when the Burma Army fired artillery inside the territory of anti-junta group Karen National Union (KNU) in Kayin State.

 

The KNU said the military fired artillery at Nyaung Pin Gyi village in Saw Hti township in Khalel Lwi Htoo district Brigade 3 in the Kawthoolei controlled area of the KNU on February 23.

 

Two women villagers, aged 35 and 66, were killed by the artillery. The injured civilians are a 17- year-old-boy and a 22-year-old young woman. The victims are currently being treated in a nearby clinic.

 

The military fired 18 rounds of artillery on the Kyan Tho Kone village on February 22 but three of these failed to explode.
